Brief History of New Theatre Arts Festival

In 2006, the Ministry of Culture decided to change the format for the Drama productions and renamed it, The National Theatre Arts Festival.  The National Commercial Bank, as the major cooperate sponsor agreed with the new proposal and agreed that it would help to rejuvenate the Theatre Arts in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Interested Drama groups were informed about the new format and readily agreed to adapt accordingly.  The drama groups were required to take responsibility for their individual productions, under the guidance and supervision of the drama department.

The Drama Festival Committee was formed to manage the various aspects from fixing performance dates, tickets, public relations, marketing, advertising and promotions.

To ensure that planning and programme targets are met, the Festival Committee would meet with the title sponsor representative, the drama group leaders and the drama development officer on a regularly monthly  basis.

So far, the format has proven to be very successful and drama groups have reported that they are reaping the benefits under this new collaboration.

Six community groups are stated to take the stage at the Peace Memorial Hall from the last weekend in October 29^th, 30^th, 31^st, every weekend in November and the first weekend in December.
