Vincy Mas Poster and View Cards
The 11,000 visitors that graced these shores last year for Vincy Mas 2011 was a reward for the vigorous promotion by the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC).
And with this in mind, the CDC has launched its official Vincy Mas 2012 Poster and View Cards which are used to promote the local festival both locally and overseas.
Chairman of the CDC Dennis Ambrose speaking during the CDC’s first news conference leading up to Vincy Mas 2012 which was held last Tuesday April 17th at the CDC’s Office at Victoria Park, said that news briefing was held with the main aim of launching the view cards and poster.
The Chairman said that the view cards have been in circulation for a while at a number of distribution areas including the ET Joshua Airport where passengers receive them.
“Based on last year’s figures I can safely say that we were handsomely rewarded for our efforts in promoting Vincy Mas around the world; the view cards as a mode of promotion has proven to be one of the most powerful and effective marketing tools for bringing people to St Vincent,” said Ambrose. He added that the view cards and poster were specifically designed featuring the various aspects of Vincy Mas. The view cards can also act as a post card while they have the programme of activities for Vincy Mas 2012 on the back.
One of the view cards displays the three monarchs, the 2011 Ragga Soca King Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams, the 2011 Soca Monarch Champ Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper and the 2011 Calypso King Maxwell ‘Tajo’ Francis. Another one has ‘Avatar’, the Section of Band 2011 from SVG Players International while one depicts the 2011 King of Bands (Ricardo Adams) from Blondie Bird and Friends. The other card shows the hat-trick Senior Panorama Champions, the National Lotteries Authority Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orhcestra.
The poster shows images of the 2011 Ragga Soca King Shernelle ‘Skarpyon’ Williams, the 2011 Road March King Godwin ‘Gao’ Oliver, the 2011 Soca Monarch Champ Delroy ‘Fireman’ Hooper, the Sion Hill Euphonium’s (2011 Panorama Winners) Rodney Small and Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines 2011 Miss Lotto Aviar Charles. Absent is the 2011 Calypso King Maxwell ‘Tajo’ Francis.
Ambrose said that photos for both the view cards and poster came from Oris Robinson while the cards were designed by Sean Young and the poster by Shannon Durrant.
“We are always pleased to have young talent at the forefront,” said Ambrose who added that promotion of the festival is also being done on the CDC’s website www.carnivalsvg.com.
The Chairman also spoke of the live video streaming of events and stated that they are currently exploring the possibility of a pay per view set via a cable provider, “as we understand that this is a necessity.”
According to Ambrose, the CDC is collaborating with the Tourism Authority to market Vincy Mas in the diaspora. He added that while Carnival is an expression of the cultural arts, it also plays a role in building and sustaining tourism.
Vincy Mas activities begin in May and run until Tuesday July 10th.
