SVG in Re-Discover the CaribbeanThis country was ably represented at the 7th Re-Discover the Caribbean Show staged in Barbados from April 23 and 24, 2010. The Show, which featured well over 100 exhibitors from 20 Caribbean destinations, included a Vincentian contingent comprised of: SKR Beverages, represented by Mr. Louis Providence; Cassy’s Designs (knitting), represented by Ms. Cassandra Williams; Island Wear (craft), represented by Mr. Volney Greaves; Everdale Farm (smoked meat), represented by Mr. Leroy Pike; and The Hotel Association, the only repeat participant, represented by Mrs. Dawn Smith,. ![]() Cleo Jones, Executive Director of Invest SVG, which made the Vincentian participation possible, said that while “Re-Discover is really a tourism event, given our limited resources, the best thing for us to do is to try as much as possible to promote everything that we are responsible for. “So,” she continued, “when the interested parties indicated their willingness to go to Re-Discover 2010, we were more than happy to support everybody and do as much as possible to ensure those people go to Barbados and see what can happen for them.” She stated that based on report since Re-Discover, “Some people realized benefits,… and even though some may not be immediate, there are things that can be followed-up on that will produce results in the short to medium term.” For most of the Vincentian participants, the event was a learning experience. Ms. Shana Browne, Export Development Officer of Invest SVG, reported that SVG Invest worked closely with the local Chamber of Industry and Commerce, which was instrumental in setting up meetings beforehand for the persons sponsored, and the Tourism Authority, International Airport Development Company (IADC) and the Hotel/ Tourism Association to ensure SVG’s effective and wholesome participation in the Barbados hosted event.
