Bequia Apartment Wins Golden AwardThere are two separate identical detached buildings. Each building has one spacious two-bedroom, single bath apartment on garden level and another two-bedroom single bath apartment on the balcony level. There are views of the tropical gardens and through the palms to the lovely Friendship Bay.  That’s the Friendship Garden Apartment - a name that stands for top quality. Last January 20, Friendship Garden Apartment received the Golden Award for Tourist, Hotel and Catering Industry. The ceremony was in Spain and coincided with Madrid’s International Tourist Exhibition. Lubin Ollivierre, owner of the prize-winning accommodation, was caught by surprise with the announcement. He is a humble man, who accepts matters in strides. But he knows what quality service is about. When he left school, he worked as a dish washer at a prestigious resort in the Southern Grenadines, where he “learned all the features of quality tourism.” He is versatile. “I work hard to adjust to suit the tide,” he said. This award has not altered his humble approach. He is worried, however, about certain aspects of the tourism business in Bequia. He contends that local operators are sidelined in preference for patronage to foreign entities. Ollivierre is hoping that the publicity provided by the award will enhance his venture.
