Tourism Authority Launches Beast Leh Go Music Video

Produced by ace Jamaican Producer Jay Will (Game Over), ‘The Beast Leh Go’ music video threatens to make you dance just like one of thelive performances done by two-time soca monarch winner Gamal ‘Skinny Fabulous’ Doyle. The exclusive video’s premiere was done before a small gathering of Vincentians last Wednesday at the offices of the Ministry of Tourismlocated in the National Insurance Services (NIS) Building on Upper Bay Street.

Filmed in Jamaica, the video has a Vincentian flavour while it also appeals to the regional and international markets. It features a mixture of Vincentian and Jamaican dancers and has the unique touch that Producer Jay Will (jaywillfilms) has become known for. Jay Will has produced videos for artistes including Shaggy, Demarco, Etana and Mr Vegas among many other Jamaican superstars.

L-R: Minister Glen Beache, Santia Bradshaw, Skinny Fabulous and Anthony DennieAmong those present at the showing were Acting Chief Executive Officer of the St Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority Faylene Findlay Scrubb, Minister of Tourism Glen Beache (hosted the release), Managing Director of Pyramid Entertainment Management Inc. Santia Bradshaw, Product Development Officer at the National Lotteries Authority Anthony Dennie, Chief Executive Officer of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Ashford Wood and Chairman of the Carnival Development Corporation (CDC) Dennis Ambrose.

The video was part funded by the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority. Explaining the reason for funding the video, Minister Beache said that Skinny’s video is part of the Ministry’s promotional thrust in Trinidad and Tobago, “as that country is one of St Vincent’s biggest customers in terms of Tourism”. In 2008 after winning the national soca monarch competition, Skinny took part and won the prize for the best performance at the International Soca Monarch Competition held in Trinidad. He is scheduled to make his second appearance in the competition next month. Minister Beache said that apart from helping push SVG from a tourism standpoint, the attention gained by the video will also have a positive impact on our local Vincy Mas. Minister Beache said SVG could not afford advertising like some of the bigger countries, “and so we had to come up with a plan and the plan was about awareness, making sure the name of St Vincent and the Grenadines got out there and I think we have accomplished it somewhat”.

St. Vincent has a marketing budget of EC$14 million while the Bahamas has one of US$78 million, Barbados US$50 million and Jamaica US$45 million. Before introducing the video, the lanky entertainer thanked Minister Beache for the support given to him by the Ministry and its Tourism Authority. Answering a few questions, Skinny said that the video was shot in Jamaica because he goes to school there and it was convenient for everybody involved. He urged other artistes to stay true to the style of music they believe in while giving the people what they want.

Skinny Fabulous
Skinny is now being managed by Pyramid Entertainment Management Inc. Managing Director of Pyramid Santia Bradshaw was on hand to witness the video launch. Bradshaw thanked the Ministry for extending support to Skinny. She sees the Ministry’s embracing of the project as, “very commendable”. She said that Pyramid sees Skinny as one of the finest artistes on its roster.

Bradshaw, who is also a trained lawyer, described Skinny as a cultural icon and explained that Jay Will was chosen to do the video because of his expertise. Will is a former employee of MTV Networks. Bradshaw also revealed that Skinny wanted to launch the video here before showing it anywhere else. She says that the video is one of the better videos of the twelve put out in the last three years by Pyramid.

Bradshaw, who boasts of Pyramid having successfully distributed their artistes’ videos to several international television networks, said that the company’s promotion and distribution network is,“extremely extensive” as they are linked to MTV. She said that the video will be shown on Tempo and, “we will be trying to get it into markets where you will not normally see videos”. She urged members of the corporate community to continue supporting Skinny while thanking the DJ’s for playing his music. “Skinny is one of the premier artistes at Pyramid; even though he is the youngest in the entourage of artistes we may have, there is a lot of lessons that the other artistes have learnt from him; Skinny has a commendable thirst for success and it is something that the honorable Minister Beache recognized and chose to support”, said Bradshaw.

As Acting CEO of the SVG Tourism Authority, Scrubb said that the Authority has a primary mandate to market SVG as a tourism destination and the video will add to the efforts of the Tourism Authority and by extension the CDC in marketing this country’s premier festival Vincy Mas while also attracting visitors.

Dennie, the National Lotteries Authority Representative used the opportunity to hand over to Skinny, a cheque for US $5000. Dennie said that the money is expected to be used for the entertainer’s flight, accommodation and promotion in Trinidad and Tobago next month.
