SVG Has World’s Top 2 Islands

An upscale travel website has listed two islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines as the top two in the world that are considered to be “off the beaten track.”

Jetsetter.com said Mustique and Canouan in the Grenadines are the top two islands among 10 identified as the best getaways.

Harbour Island in the Bahamas is listed as no. 6, and Culebra, an archipelago off Puerto Rico, is named no. 10.
Cotton House, one of two up market facilities open to visitors who prefer 'hotel type' accommodation on Mustique.
“This small, privately owned island in St Vincent and the Grenadines, is an exclusive getaway frequented by rock-n-rollers and royalty alike,” said Reuters news agency about Mustique. “The Cotton House and Firefly are the only places for non-residents to stay,” it added. “If you need an escape, with sun, sea, and salt water, this is it.”

Raffles Resort, on Canouan is already making a name for itself as one of the leading all inclusive resorts in the world.

Canouan, which means “island of the turtles”, is “a lush landscape with rolling hills and secluded coves to explore,” says Reuters. “The powder-white sand, turquoise waters, exotic coral and quaint beaches make it paradise to enjoy,” it said. “The Raffles Canouan offers breathtaking views and a list of activities,” it added.

Harbour Island, part of the Bahamas collection of over 1,100 islands, has more than three miles of pink sand, the news agency said, stating that The Rock House is “a stand-out place to stay.”

Many of the islands in Culebra are classified as nature reserves, Reuters said.

“There are bird sanctuaries, as well as stunning beaches,” it said.

Jetsetter.com listed Mauritius, an island nation off the coast of Africa, as no. 3 among the world’s exquisite islands.

It also listed Fernando de Noronha, an archipelago of 21 islands off the coast of northern Brazil, as no 4; Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands north of Sicily, no. 5; Kangaroo Island, Australia, no. 7; Hvar, one of the islands off Croatia, no. 8; and Muhu Island, off Estonia in the Baltic region, no. 9.
