Good morning S…V…G!!!!

St. Vincent and the Grenadines will get some promotion with a five-minute presentation on the programme Good Morning America. A film crew is expected to make a four-day trip here, during which they would shoot footage for two slots, each running two and half minutes. When the scenes would be aired depends on how quickly the editing takes place.

All of this was revealed by Minister of Tourism, Glen Beache at a news conference last Tuesday. Beache paid tribute to Ministry of Tourism staff at a press conference he hosted Monday, December 8. He noted the arrival of the Good Morning America crew as culmination of two years of planning.

Minister171209Beache was hopeful that the crew might be able to include aspects of the Nine Mornings celebrations during their visit, but he could not offer any guarantees as to that possibility. The Tourism Minister also highlighted a visit by Canadian radio personality, Chris Robertson. He has listeners in Toronto and Quebec, and his coming here, to renew his vows, is expected to add to the tourism drive. While he was not overwhelmed by gloom, Beache does not agree that there is going to be an increase in stay over visitors here in the next three months. He does not see any expansion in visitor arrivals unless “air fares go down.”

The Minister praised the Canadian Tour operators Total Vacations whose best product is a package including St. Lucia and St. Vincent and the Grenadines. He also took the opportunity to call for persons using the Rawacou site to have some respect for the site. He was disturbed with the extent of garbage strewn over the area, as well as the high volume by music operators.

In other related action, staff of the Ministry would be handing out a hot meal to homeless persons in Kingstown, December 24. A change of clothing would also be provided to the street dwellers. Annie Peters, coordinator of the Christmas Outreach campaign, sees the exercise as helping to “minimize the level of harassment and littering.”
