It’s Nine Mornings!

NineMorningsBomani2017Nine Mornings is alive in St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG), as 44 communities throughout the country have been staging successful activities.

While Kingstown is usually well supported, rural communities have also seen villagers participating in large numbers in unusual games to win prizes.

One such game at Richland Park was the hot water race, in which the competitors balanced a bucket of hot water on their heads, while racing to the finish line.

In Mesopotamia, there was the teenage boys peddle bike race, in which the winner won $100, courtesy of Western Union. The community of Stubbs, which has won the award for the Best Nine Mornings community for several years, yesterday had live performances from Resistance Heartbeat Drummers and Luta. Members of the crowd performed Luta’s 2017 Christmas song in an attempt to win prizes.

In Barrouallie, their activities were broadcast live on Star Radio yesterday morning. Cocobola, a resident there, displayed fashion apparel, made from recycled garbage bags and sacs and urged persons to come to their activities this morning (Friday) in their school clothes.

This year, in an unusual move, Nine Mornings activities will continue until Sunday morning, December 24 (Nine Mornings activities are not usually held on Sundays).

Each community competes for the Best Lit Community award in their respective zones in the SVG Nine Mornings Vinlec Community Lighting Competition. The Best Lit Private House and Best Lit Garden are also judged.

The other competing communities are: Rose Bank, Petit Bordel, Layou, Troumaca, Green Hill, Fountain, Town Hill, Cotton Ground, Richland Park, Simon and Carriere, Point Village, New Grounds, Owia, Port Elizabeth, Bequia; Diamond Village, Bequia; Clifton, Union Island; Point Village and Rose Hall.
