100th ANNIVERSARY NINE MORNINGS FESTIVAL

NineMorningsSt. Vincent and the Grenadines’ 100th Anniversary of Nine Mornings Festival was celebrated under the theme “Celebrating 100 Years Of A Unique Vincentian Tradition,” from December 16th – 24th 2013.

A number of individuals and institutions were honoured by the National Nine Mornings Committee for their contribution to the festival over the years. Awardees comprised Mr. Sebastian ‘Bassy’ Alexander and ‘El Grupo Amistad, Pastor Errol Daniel and the Streams of Power Church, Leroy Llewelyn and the Sion Hill Community, St. Vincent Electricity Services Ltd., (Vinlec), Carlton ‘CP’ Hall, Sion Hill Euphonium Steel Orchestra, Kid’s Plus, Ministry of Culture and the National Lotteries Authority

Indigenous entertainment sessions were staged in various communities for Nine Mornings Festival, such as Ring Games, Steel ‘N’ Skins and Elders Evening.
Winners of the 2013 national competitions included:
1.    Best Nine Mornings Community - Stubbs
2.    Best Christmas Community - Stubbs
3.    Best 100 Years Theme - Point Village
4.    Best Community On Parade - Point Village
5.    VINLEC Community Lighting Competition National Champion - Point Village
6.    Best Local Christmas Song - Rodney ‘Luta’ McIntosh
7.    Best Lit Garden - Richmond Hill Gardens
8.    Best Lit Private House - Jimmy Samuel


 TERMINAL BUILDING COMPLETED

TerminalBldgOn December 30th 2013, the certificate of completion for the Terminal Building of the Argyle International Airport, was handed over to Prime Minister, Dr. Ralph Gonsalves, by the Resident Ambassador of the Republic of China on Taiwan.

The Argyle International Airport project is being built on 290 acres of land; when completed it will have a paved runway of 9,000 feet in length and 150 feet in width. The passenger terminal building has a domestic terminal and an international terminal. The building which was constructed by Taiwanese company OECC, has three floors with 145,000 square feet of floor space, and is designed to handle about one and a half million passengers annually. The airport will accommodate jets as large as the Boeing 747-400s and will allow for direct flights to St. Vincent and the Grenadines from USA, Canada, Europe and Central and South America.

 

 

 SVGTA ASSISTS FLOOD VICTIMS

SVGTAassistsfloodvictimsIn an effort to lift the nation during the flood relief period, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) assisted fifteen (15) children from the South Rivers Community, who were victims of the December 24th, 2013 disaster.  The students were provided with school uniforms, book bags and books. The tropical trough system which affected SVG claimed over eight lives, left persons in emergency shelters, and resulted in approximately EC$353 million in damage.
