 liming_logoHow do you prefer to lime? Poolside with a cocktail in hand while reading a book, under the shade on a hammock with a loved one listening to music, or soaking up the sun with friends at the beach?

To pay homage to the art of ‘liming,’ the 32-isle nation of St. Vincent & the Grenadines (SVG) launched its very own Liming Appreciation Society aimed to unleash the leisure spirit within.

Described by the urban dictionary as “encompassing any leisure activity which entails the sharing of food and drink, the exchange of tall stories, jokes and anecdotes,” liming encourages people to dedicate more relaxation time “provided that the activity has no explicit purpose beyond itself.”

The Liming Appreciation Society was launched on January 28th across SVG’s various social media channels, allowing consumers to master the art of liming.  It’s an interactive way for consumers to both share and discover liming news, stories, photos, cocktail recipes, music, blog posts, and much more—all presided over by his eminency in liming, Dr. Vince E. Lime.  

Simply join the Liming Appreciation Society on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/DiscoverSVG.  Anyone who is a fan/becomes a fan can also enter the month-long “Win a Lime Green iPod Nano” global sweepstakes. Five winners will receive the iPod Nano at their doorstep complete with a suggested Vincy liming playlist—full of the best music to lime to, whether just hanging out, relaxing or partying. From the chilliest hangouts and blissed-out beaches to cooling cocktails and the best hammocks, the Society will have it covered on all bases and encourage others to share their liming tips and experiences.

“When you step foot in SVG, liming is inevitable for everyone—myself included,” said
Glen Beache, CEO of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority. “We are a destination that has long embraced the art of liming…our beautiful beaches, tortoise-pace of life, striking sunsets, and hammocks swaying in the tropical breeze make it nearly impossible not to adapt to our laid-back ‘Vincy’ lifestyle.”

It won’t be long until visitors can get into the SVG liming groove much quicker.  With the new Argyle International Airport on mainland St. Vincent scheduled for late 2013 completion and offering direct jet service from the U.S., Canada and Europe, travelers will be able to get a taste of this tropical paradise much sooner.

CHTA_Market_PlaceThe 31st Caribbean Travel Marketplace was held for the second consecutive year at Nassau/Paradise Island, Bahamas, January 20th - 22nd 2013. The event was attended by Mr. Glen Beache, Chief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority.  

Caribbean Travel Marketplace involved negotiations among travel and tourism professionals, and was hosted by the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA). “CHTA scheduled 12,476 business appointments between the buyers and sellers of inventory such as hotel rooms and airline seats.”

The CHTA Board of Directors made a resolution for Caribbean Heads of Government to convene a regional tourism summit, in the next six months, to develop a strategic approach that provides sustainable long term growth in the Caribbean tourism economy.

Caribbean Travel Marketplace 2014 will take place in Jamaica.

Digital_DetoxSt. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Digital Detox campaign which was launched in 2012, offered visitors the opportunity “to disconnect” and enjoy a 'de-tech’ vacation.  This campaign has resulted in St. Vincent & the Grenadines ranking in Wellness Tourism Worldwide’s
Top 10 Wellness Travel Trends of 2013.”

privateclubsSt. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Digital Detox Campaign and Petit St. Vincent (a perfect digitally-free hideaway) were featured in Private Clubs magazine – “What’s New In The Caribbean.

“Private Clubs – a luxury magazine about golf, travel, food, wine, spirits, tech, fashion, cars, planes, and boats. Members access the luxe life through Private Clubs, the  award-winning luxury magazine designed to keep affluent, influential readers in the know.”


Top_10_PlacesElizabeth Woodson uncovered the “Top 10 Getaway Spots” on the Travel page of CoastalLiving.com. St. Vincent & the Grenadines was among travelers 2013 wish list which encompassed destinations as Panama, Bahamas, Australia and Mozambique.

Coastal Living is the “source for seaside-inspired decor, shore style, seafood, and travel - the ultimate resource for those that love the coast.”


ABTASt. Vincent & the Grenadines was selected in “ABTA’s 2013 Hot Destinations.”   The January issue of ABTA Magazine “checked out the tourist destinations expected to be big in 2013, from up-and-comers Burma and Sri Lanka to old favourites Tunisia and Greece.”

ABTA is the official monthly trade publication of the travel association, which has a membership of just under 1,500 companies.


Best_Caribbean_HotelsBased on an evaluation of expert ratings, awards and user reviews, St. Vincent & the Grenadines was among the ‘Best Caribbean Hotels’ in US News & World Report Travel.

In addition, “Petit St. Vincent Resort (PSV) ranked #2 out of seven hotels in St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Petit St. Vincent Resort scored high enough to make the exclusive  U.S. News List of the Best Hotels in the Caribbean.

“Founded nearly 80 years ago, U.S. News & World Report has a long tradition of helping people make smart decisions across categories ranging from Education to Cars. In 2010, U.S. News launched a Travel channel to help people make the best choices about how and where to spend their vacation time. This is done by seeking consensus among travelers and experts and providing tools and recommendations readers can trust. They aim to take the guesswork out of trip-planning and help readers focus on having fun.”


Toronto_Boat_ShowThe St. Vincent & the Grenadines’ Tourism Office in Canada participated in the Toronto International Boat Show from January 12th - 20th, at the Direct Energy Centre at Exhibition Place Toronto. Jan 11th was a special preview night for specially invited guests to view the booths and get a close look at the array of boats available for sale.  One small sailboat was sold and sent directly to the shippers, destined for Bequia to be used to teach persons to sail. This year, attendance at the show was up from last year which may be an indication of more confidence in the Canadian economy.

The SVG’s booth was situated in the Caribbean Village and “Captain Jack Sparrow” was a fixture on both weekends of the show and proved to be a huge attraction. The booth welcomed many persons who endorsed the destination as one that should not be missed when sailing the Caribbean and many who had just returned with positive stories. If plans follow through for others, SVG will be busy with Canadian visitors and “yachties” this year!


Toroto_Ultimate_Travel_ShowJanuary 26th - 27th was a busy one for the Canada Office with its presence at the Ultimate Travel Show in Toronto.  Many potential visitors stopped and got information and brochures detailing the attributes of St. Vincent & the Grenadines. Several enquiries came from brides and grooms to- be who were overspills from the National Bridal Show next door who were anxious to get honeymoon and destination wedding information for upcoming nuptials.

The Caribbean section was entertained by a Caribbean band that played for the two days and a Scuba tank which attracted the diving enthusiasts at the show.


romantic-islands-grenadinesTravel+Leisure readers selected St. Vincent & the Grenadines in their pick of  “2013 World’s Most Romantic Islands.”  The destination was ranked #11 out of 37 destinations.

In the feature by Christine Ciarmello, Worldview Travel’s Adam Rog, cited “the influence of movies and books on romantic getaways - people see an island on screen, and they want that fantasy. Celebrities also raise an island’s profile, as is true of St. Bart’s, a white-sand favorite in the French West Indies, and Mustique, part of the Grenadines, a Caribbean island chain where Mick Jagger owns a villa.”

“Travel + Leisure is a travel magazine based in New York City, New York. It is published 12 times a year, and has 4.8 million readers.”


bridal-guide-january-february-13-coverTravel Writer, Donna Heiderstadt, featured St. Vincent & the Grenadines in the Jan/Feb 2013 issue, of Bridal Guide. The 25th Anniversary issue focused on Caribbean exclusive reader offers called "Island Fever: Deals & Steals."  The issue was positioned as a gift to readers, within a multi-page feature round-up with photos that has 10 exclusive offers.

“Bridal Guide is a national bi-monthly magazine with a circulation of 161,954. It provides the bride-to-be with all of the information needed to ensure a successful wedding day. Features cover the entire cycle of wedding planning, including decorating, fashion, beauty, fitness, psychology, travel, home design and honeymoon destinations. Editorial also covers etiquette, relationships, married life, sex, health and financial subjects”.


Destination_Weddings__HoneymoonsSt. Vincent & the Grenadines was selected as one of the Best Wedding Locations for 2013, in the Jan/Feb issue of Destinations Weddings & Honeymoons.

The article ‘Where to Wed 2013 - 12 Romantic Spots Ideal For Vows’ featured Petit St. Vincent, Palm Island, Buccament Bay Resort, and Mustique as amazing wedding venues, ideal for tying the knot in style.

“Destination Weddings & Honeymoons is a bi-monthly magazine that details how to turn an island wedding or honeymoon fantasy into a reality. Stories focus on destination wedding planning tips, fashion and products, honeymoon travel and everything else associated with destination weddings.”


En_RouteSt Vincent & the Grenadines’ quest for greater market visibility would be given a lift by En Route, Air Canada’s official inflight magazine.  Alexandria Redgrave, a travel writer representing En Route, recently completed a one week familiarization tour of St Vincent & the Grenadines as a guest of the St Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority.

The En Route magazine feature is expected to be a 10 page story with a ‘Big Island vs Small Island’ angle revealing the variety of experiences to be encountered on this multi island state. Redgrave’s trip ran from the 11th - 18th January. The story is slated for publication at the end of this year around the same time that the Argyle International Airport is scheduled for completion.


Seven_SeasThe St Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority hosted world renowned Photographer, Ferenc Mate in the month of January. Mate who was representing Seven Seas International, a global media company, noted for their compelling photography on almanacs and sailing magazines. His photo shoot included land, aerial and sea photographs for the Seven Seas Calendar and for the forthcoming book ‘Seven Seas—A Guide to World Cruising.’  In his visit which lasted close to a month, Mate sailied the Grenadines and explored St Vincent, with a particular interest in the marine life and eco-tourism haunts.

“The Seven Seas Calendar is North America’s #1 selling sailing calendar now in its 30th year. The Seven Seas Calendar has sold 15,000 copies annually.”


BuucamentBuccament Bay Resort, St. Vincent & the Grenadines, has been listed in the “Top 10 Fitness Boot Camps Around The World.

Other destinations that were included in the  Top 10 Fitness Boot Camps are: Algarve-Portugal, Kent-England, St. Petersburg-Florida and Ibiza- Spain.

Buccament Bay Resort and Fitness 4 Boot Camps are offering guests the chance to reach (and sustain) their weight and fitness goals with a special holiday exercise camp. Led by ex-Royal Marines, guests can choose between five, six, 10 or 12-day courses offering a variety of daily exercises, including circuit training, obstacle courses, swimming, team games, boxing and yoga.”


Womans_WorldSt. Vincent & the Grenadines’ PR and Advertising Agency in North America, Spring O’Brien collaborated with Woman’s World, travel editor, Johnene Granger in January to publish an article on the destination.  

The article titled ‘Relax & Recharge in St. Vincent and the Grenadines’ included coverage of St. Vincent, Young Island, Bequia, and the Tobago Cays, was published in Woman's World January issue. The ‘Armchair Traveler' section (that typically includes fun drink concoctions and recipes), featured one of Buccament Bay Resort's signature drinks, which the resort's PR reps provided among their delicious drink and food recipes.

“Woman's World has a circulation of 1,262,468. It is a national, weekly magazine established in 1981 and centers on today's active woman. Woman's World focuses on the needs and interests of today's woman, both on a personal and on a family level, with regular features including the mind, body and spirit, as well as food, affordable fashion, craft ideas and home decorating.”


Palm_Conde_NasteThe Grenadine island of Palm Island is on the Condé Nast Traveler 2013 “Gold List” – ‘The World's Best Places to Stay’.

“Condé Nast Traveler, an American magazine founded in 1987, is the world's premier travel magazine, and is one of the most trusted names in travel.”


MustiqueJessica Van Der Steen was on the island of Mustique, St Vincent & the Grenadines, in January, for a photo-shoot of promotional pictures and video for Heide Klein's latest swimwear range.

“Jessica Van Der Steen was first featured on the cover of the April 2000 edition of Ché magazine at age 16. In September 2003, she was also featured in the Dutch edition of ELLE. She then appeared in the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition in both 2004 and 2005. Currently, Van Der Steen is a model for Victoria's Secret.”

petitstvincent_travel_blogA Luxury Travel Blog featured Petit St. Vincent in ‘The Caribbean’s Best Kept Secrets.’ The blog was written by Carole Booth on January 8th

PSV_Destiation_WOn January 12th, Bob Payne posted in Destination:W an article captioned ‘A private island for your Caribbean wedding totally worth the splurge.’
In his introduction Bob Payne stated that “Nothing says ‘You are my whole world’ like getting married on your own private island. Especially if the island is one of the most idyllic in the Caribbean, and you can invite a boatload of guests.”

“Destination: W provides engaged couples with everything they need to plan a destination wedding. Combining inspiring real weddings with essential travel information, venues are showcased from around the world.”


CTDC_new_websiteA new website CaribbeanTravel.com will be launched on February 28th 2013, by the Caribbean Tourism Development Company (CTDC), the Caribbean region's tourism marketing and business development unit. CTDC is a partnership between the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association (CHTA) and the Caribbean Tourism Organization (CTO).

The site will expose member countries and hotels to about 200,000 online viewers per month. It has been announced that  the website's advanced searching capabilities will make finding the ideal Caribbean resort easier than ever for consumers, as well as allow hoteliers, restaurants, attractions and other visitor activities the ability to showcase their properties.

The CHTA has announced that “CHTA member hotels are entitled to list their property at no charge. This is not just a text listing, it includes up to 10 pictures, videos, your social media links and ‘Specials.’ Please click through this link http://business.caribbeantravel.com to create your user name and password and follow the instructions. If you are a consumer-facing tourism provider such as an attraction or restaurant, and either a CHTA member and/or a member of your local hotel association, you are also entitled to a free listing and can load your data via the same link above.”

The deadline is February 18th for all members to load their information to catch the website’s launch. CHTA members that have loaded their listing before February 18th will be eligible to win a $2,000 credit towards their participation at the 2014 Caribbean Travel Marketplace, in Jamaica.   

The St. Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority is appealing to SVGHTA members to capitalize on this marketing opportunity, by loading their information on the CTDC’s new website.

The website will be viewable across various media platforms including tablets and mobile devices, and will contain unique content on 36 Caribbean countries, including more than 600 CHTA-member hotels.

This waterfall is accessible via a hike through lush rain forest, it is set in a deep volcanic canyon, about 4 miles from Richmond Vale Academy, along the leeward coast to Richmond. What am I called?

Answer: Trinity Falls

trinityfalls_600Water cascades down volcanic rocks in three places, hence the name Trinity Falls. It is a two-tiered fall with a pool below. Flow velocity and topography of the pool creates a whirlpool of water spinning anti-clockwise. Visitors to this site are strongly advised to exercise caution when swimming in the natural pool because of the whirlpool currents.
