UPGRADED TOURISM MOBILE APP

On August 13th, the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority’s USA Public Relations and Advertising Agency, Spring O’Brien Inc., launched an upgraded tourism mobile app.

According to press release issued by the Agency “The free app, which was first launched in April 2011, now provides an even clearer snapshot of the “ins and outs” of this multi-faceted destination. With a more user-friendly interface, coupled with updated iPhone and iPad versions (via the Apple iTunes Store) as well as the Android and a Web app version for all handheld touch devices such as Blackberry available at discoversvg.com, eager travelers can discover the true “Vincy” experience on the fly in ways that are now much more accessible.”

The upgraded app features a wealth of information on the destination’s 32 islands and cays, namely greater content on each of the nine inhabited islands (such as “Where to Stay” and “Where to Dine”). There is also updated contact information on myriad land and sea operators within the country’s niche markets including sailing, diving, soft adventure, and weddings/honeymoons. The app now includes an even wider range of new photography, video, and maps that showcase the different SVG experiences—from beautiful coral reefs seen in the Tobago Cays while diving to major festivals and events like Vincy Mas.

Social media sharing on the app is another enhancement that now exists on a more in-depth platform, linking SVG’s Facebook and Twitter profiles as well as Pinterest page. As the “Critter Capital of the Caribbean”, SVG’s app now features an interactive underwater game that allows users to match up some of the rarest underwater creatures to their proper na

The app is accessible via QR Code (a two-dimensional barcode) with the simple click of a button.

TOUR GUIDING & HOUSEKEEPERS TRAINING

tourguidetrainingDuring the month of July, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority hosted two (2) two-day workshops for housekeepers of accommodation properties on mainland St. Vincent.  A total of thirty-one (31) housekeepers and two (2) hotel maintenance personnel underwent training in the subject areas of Tourism Education and Customer Service as part of the tourism service standards training which began in 2011.  Further training for housekeepers will continue during 2012, in the subject areas of practical housekeeping, customer service and tourism education.

Additionally, nine (9) tour guides also completed a week of training in tour guiding skills which focused on the subject areas of Tourism Education, Customer Service, Practical Tour Guiding Techniques and Basic First Aid.  The training offered by Authority seeks to ensure that tourism service providers are trained and equipped with the skills necessary in offering quality service to locals and visitors alike.

Plans are also on the way to host several training sessions for food and beverage personnel in the last quarter of 2012. Accommodation properties that are interested in participating in this upcoming training are asked to contact the Quality Development Unit as soon as possible.
