SVGTA AT CARIBBEAN TRAVEL MARKETPLACE

caribbean_travel_market_placeChief Executive Officer of the St. Vincent & the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA), Mr. Glen Beache attended the Caribbean Hotel & Tourism Association’s 30th Caribbean Travel Marketplace, held from January 22nd – 24th at Atlantis Resort, Bahamas.

Caribbean Travel Marketplace is the requisite business-to-business marketing event for the Caribbean hotel and tourism industry.  It is regarded as the Caribbean region’s most influential annual meeting of public and private sector tourism stakeholders. Meetings were held by hoteliers, tourism providers and tour operators/wholesalers from around the world.

While in the Bahamas, Mr. Beache also attended a meeting of Minister and Directors of Tourism in the Caribbean, hosted by the Caribbean Tourism Organization.

TORONTO INTERNATIONAL BOAT SHOW

boat_showSt. Vincent and the Grenadines’ Canada Tourism Office participated in the Toronto International Boat Show for the fourth consecutive year. The ten day show took place from January 13th - 22nd, 2012 and saw increased interest in our islands both for sailing vacations as well as land vacations. With over 550 exhibitors, a manmade lake and interactive activities for the entire family, it is no wonder that the show saw over 70,000 visitors from Ontario as well as other provinces in Canada. The Toronto Boat show offers unmatched prices for yachts and all varieties of sea craft and therefore attracts the clientele that our destination targets. The large numbers taking brochures were either sailing in the destination this season and wanted detailed island information or were making plans for next year. We received many positive remarks regarding sailing through our islands which gives tremendous strength to our marketing efforts. Located in the Canadian Yachting Village again this year, St.Vincent and the Grenadines shared booth space with Grenada which is often the port of entry for trips to SVG.

ALITOURS PRODUCT LAUNCH

alitours_canouanOn January 30th 2012, the St.Vincent and the Grenadines Toronto Tourism Office joined Tour Operator Alitours to launch its 2012 Caribbean lineup which included Young Island Resort and Canouan Beach Resort.  The brewing snow storm outside was the perfect backdrop for travel to our destination. Over 100 top travel agents attended and received promotional brochures and hotel brochures. Following a visit to Canada by Young Island Manager Mrs. Bianca Porter in 2010 and her attendance at a travel agent event organized by this office,  Alitours jumped on board to offer them in their Caribbean brochure in 2011 and now in 2012. Canouan Beach Resort was also approached by Alitours to join their listing of St. Vincent and the Grenadines properties which hopefully will expand next year.

Alitours International Inc., was established as a travel services provider in 1995, serving clients in Canada, Italy, Greece and the Caribbean. Alitours’ service includes providing information on: “the most creative and innovative product ideas and services; discovering new ‘off-the-beaten track’ areas and unique accommodations, a variety of cultural activities, exclusive entertainment events in creating magical and unforgettable experiences.”

QUALITY ASSURANCE ASSESSMENTS

QA_assessment The Quality Assurance Unit is continuing the assessment of stakeholders who have pre-registered for the implementation of minimum standards to guide the local tourism sector. The assessments aim to ensure that tourism business and individuals operating in the sector are made aware of the importance of the standards and their role in ensuring the minimum standards are met.  The targeted stakeholders are Short Term Vehicle Rental Operators, Tour Operators and Tourism Accommodation Properties.

During the month of January, the Quality Assurance staff in the Authority conducted pre-assessment exercises with tour guides throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines; these guides were trained by the Authority 2011 covering areas such as general tourism education, knowledge of the destination, practical tour guiding and customer service.  The Quality Assurance team conducted both land and sear tours to assess how the tour guides interact and relay information to their guests. Additionally, follow up visits to accommodation properties that were pre-assessed during the months of October and November 2011 are ongoing and will continue through the month of February.
