Awards_copy St. Vincent and the Grenadines was voted 'Best Island and  
Yachting Island of the Year'
in this year's Caribbean World 
Awards.  Other recent awards won by St. Vincent and the
Grenadines from Caribbean World were ‘2009 Best Sailing & Yachting Island of The Year’ and ‘2008 Best Honeymoon  Island of The Year.’


The award will be among a list of awards to be broadcasted on www.caribbeanworld.tv  the online interactive Caribbean World TV Channel.



 TOURISM WEEK

tourism_week_copySt. Vincent and the Grenadines celebrates Caribbean Tourism Month ‘One Sea, One Voice, One Caribbean,’ with a week of activities from November 20th - 26th 2011.

Tourism Week is hosted by the Ministry of Tourism under the theme ‘Preserving and Promoting Our Culture Through Tourism.’ Activities include a Church Service, a Youth Panel, Tourism Awards, Field Trips, Youth Symposium, Tourism Sensitization Day, a School Debate and Cultural Welcome in Bequia.

 NEW TOURISM INFORMATION OFFICER JOINS SVGTA

The Board of Directors and Staff of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) welcome Mr. Davon Jacobs to the SVGTA’s Marketing Department. Mr. Jacobs commenced employment on October 3rd 2011, as Tourism Information Officer.
 



 SVG AT WORLD TRAVEL MARKET

SVG_at_WTMDuring November 7th - 10th 2011, the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) participated in the 32nd World Travel Market (WTM), at Excel, London.  At WTM over 150 countries and regions were represented. Almost 48,000 senior travel industry professionals, government ministers, and international media, networked, negotiated, and discovered the latest industry opinion and trends.

The next World Travel Market is scheduled to take place from November 5th - 8th 2012, at Excel, London.

 US JOURNALISTS VISIT SVG

fam_tour_copyDuring November 6th - 11th, the St. Vincent and Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA) hosted a familiarization tour for journalists, from the United States, in partnership with Buccament Bay Resort and the Petit St. Vincent Resort.

On this occasion, the participants were Donna Marie Heiderstadt, journalist for ShermansTravel.com, Elite Traveler, Bridal Guide & Caribbean Travel & Life, Brenda Blair Fine and Burton M. Fine, Writers for Caribbean World. They were accompanied by Jennifer Reisfeld, SVGTA's Account Supervisor, Spring O`Brien & Co.

Other activities included an island tour of St. Vincent, a day trip and island tour of Bequia, a day tour of the Tobago Cays, and site inspections of Young Island Resort and Bequia Beach Hotel.

  

 BOYD TO ASSIST IN MARKETING ARGYLE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

Argyle29_9_11_b_2On November 8th 2011, a symposium was held in Kingstown at the National Insurance Services Conference Room, to update the public and private sectors on the progress of the Argyle International Airport.  Topics presented by Prime Minister Hon. Ralph Gonsalves included the partnership of the St. Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority (SVGTA), and the International Airport Development Company (IADC) Ltd., with Boyd Group International to assist in the marketing of the Argyle International Airport.

Boyd Group International, an aviation research and advisory group based in Colorado, USA, will provide marketing services to the Argyle International Airport such as:
•    Building airline awareness through meetings and international conferences.
•    Building airline awareness through airlines and tour operators.
•    Arranging for guided tours of the airport, resorts, and other attractions.
•    Negotiation of service agreements.

PSVThe Robb Report is an American, English-language, luxury-lifestyle magazine.  Robb Report presented readers with a ‘Sneak Peak on Petit St. Vincent’ (PSV), on its Lifestyle and Travel page. PSV reopened on November 1st 2011 after being closed for renovations.

 VISITOR ARRIVALS STATISTICS

For the month of September 2011 versus September 2010, the stay over and yacht visitor categories increased by 8.8% and 7.7% respectively. Same day on the other hand declined by 28.6% for the month of September 2011, versus the same month in 2010. There were no cruise visitors for the months of September 2010 and 2011.

For the period January to September 2011, versus the same period in 2010, stay overs registered a 2.1% increase. Yacht visitor arrivals for January to September 2011 compared to the same period in 2010 registered a 7.4% increase. Same day arrivals for the above mentioned period decreased by 17.1%, while the performance for the cruise category remains the same for the period January to April 2011, versus January to April 2010 (-16.8%).

Answer:  St. Vincent Parrot ‘Amazona guildingii’

St. Vincent Parrot ‘Amazona guildingii’ is the national bird of St. Vincent and the Grenadines. It is found in the rain forests of St. Vincent.  On September 9th 2011, an agreement was signed by the Government of St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and the Association for the Conservation of Threatened Parrots (ACTP) for the protection of SVG’s flagship species, the  Amazona guildingii.
